Aquarium Maintenance Specialist

Help keep local saltwater fish and coral aquariums pristine and thriving. You’ll perform on-site cleaning, water testing, routine maintenance, and light equipment service for residential and business clients. This role is hands-on, customer-facing, and perfect for reef keepers who love stable parameters, healthy livestock, and clear communication. Training on our workflows and safety procedures is provided.

What You'll Do

  • Provide on-site saltwater aquarium cleaning and maintenance for homes and businesses (glass/acrylic cleaning, algae removal, substrate vacuuming)
  • Perform routine water testing (salinity, pH, alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate) and document results
  • Execute partial water changes, salt mixing, and RO/DI top-offs; set dosing schedules as needed to maintain stable parameters
  • Inspect and maintain equipment: sumps, skimmers, return pumps, powerheads, heaters/chillers, ATO, UV, and filtration media replacements
  • Acclimate livestock (fish, inverts, corals), monitor health and behavior, and implement quarantine/biosecurity best practices
  • Troubleshoot emergencies (parameter swings, disease outbreaks, equipment failure) and provide clear action plans to clients
  • Plan efficient service routes, maintain inventory of salt, additives, test kits, and parts; track service notes and photos after each visit
  • Communicate maintenance findings and recommendations to clients in a friendly, professional manner; schedule follow-ups
  • Assist with new tank set-ups, aquascaping, plumbing, and periodic deep-clean or move services

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years maintaining saltwater/reef aquariums professionally or as an advanced hobbyist
  • Strong understanding of reef chemistry and stability (salinity, pH, KH/Alk, Ca, Mg, nutrients)
  • Hands-on experience with sumps, protein skimmers, ATO, RO/DI systems, UV sterilizers, and dosing pumps
  • Comfortable handling livestock, acclimation, coral placement/fragging basics, and disease identification
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs (salt, water containers, equipment) and work safely around water/electricity
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and punctual time management for route-based work
  • Clear communication with clients; organized note-taking and photo logging of each service
  • Availability for occasional evenings/weekends and emergency calls
  • Preferred: Certified Aquarist or related training; local service experience in commercial settings
